An Evening in the City
The WBA Celebrates Another Year in Milwaukee
The Wisconsin Builders Association kicked off 2017 with its annual Installation Dinner, a time to celebrate the past year’s successes within the association and the housing industry at large. It is also a time where the WBA “changes guards,” installing new leadership for the year while recognizing the talents of its many members through an awards ceremony.
The 2017 President’s Installation Dinner was held at the Intercontinental in downtown Milwaukee on January 27th, and was attended by 175 members and their families from around the state. This year, the man of the hour was 2017 WBA President David Belman, who was installed along with other WBA senior officers in a ceremony featuring Waukesha County Executive, Paul Farrow.
President Belman is a second-generation homebuilder, with over 22 years’ experience in single-family construction, land development, condominiums, and real estate. He is President of Belman Homes, Inc. and of Belman Builders, which is one of the top-10 largest builders in the Metro Milwaukee market. David previously served as the Metropolitan Builders Association President, and has also dedicated time to several local, state, and national committees within the federation.
Other senior officers installed included Associate Vice President Pam Van Dera (Mid-Shores HBA), President-Elect Steve Atkins (Brown County HBA), Treasurer Harvey Kessel (Madison Area BA), Secretary Jeff Dorner (Door County HBA), Immediate Past President Brian McKee (Madison Area BA), and Associate Vice President-Elect Kim Reed (Brown County HBA).
A cocktail reception and dinner followed the installation ceremony, where annual WBA awards were presented to outstanding builder and associate members. Brandon Bartow (Bartow Builders) was named 2016 Builder of the Year, Sean Kelly (Automated Products) as 2016 Associate of the Year, and the 2017 Rising Star Award winners were Jane Gobler (US Bank) and Mike Howe (Mike Howe Builders). The WBA also inducted Steve Anderson (Anderson Sport Products) and Doug Scott (Amwood Homes) into its Hall of Fame.
After dinner, a great local cover band provided some quality dancing tunes from the 1980s, and several guests (though we won’t say who!) braved the dance floor before taking a short stroll over to the famous SafeHouse bar for a nightcap. All and all, it was a great night for building community and celebrating housing in Wisconsin!
The WBA again wishes to thank its 2017 President’s Installation lead sponsors, Axley & Pella, and all others who made the evening possible. We also invite members throughout the state to join us for the 2018 President’s Installation Dinner on January 19th, 2018 in Green Bay – mark your calendars now!
